Dan Helciug — “241”
There some passable ideas in this pop-rock track, but the production is sub-standard to say the least, and Helciug really should not have sung in English: his pronunciation leaves a lot to be desired, and the lyrics are abysmal. The in-joke of the song’s title “241” being “two-for-one” is about as bad as “Younique” from an earlier review. Helciug brings a lot of enthusiasm to the song, I’ll give him that — I just can’t find much cause for it.
Dora Gaitanovici — “Ana”
Ah! We have some symphonic metal! Well, sort of. There are some strings. This brings me back to the early 2000s, when this genre was clocking up top 10 hits across Europe. The instruments on this track are great, from the driving guitars and thudding drums to the aforementioned violin. And while this gets bonus points for being sung in Romanian, I felt there was a lack of a vocal hook: when the song reached the chorus, there didn’t seem to be a lot to sing along with easily.
