Gabrielė Goštautaitė — “Over”
I’ve noticed that several of the Lithuanian entries are posting the lyrics in the description of their song on YouTube — I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s very grateful for this. But when I saw the lyrics for this song, I thought two things: 1) that doesn’t seem like much, even for a three-minute song, and 2) sometimes the best lyrics are the simplest, so maybe it could work. Turns out that there’s just enough lyrical content, and I’m surprised by how much I like this song. From its humble beginnings as a piano ballad it builds towards a big, powerful ending. The lines of “Is it over / When I’m sober” are hardly original, but Goštautaitė delivers them with a level of anguish which adds a bit extra to the song. The electric guitar solo in the background towards the end is a nice touch as well.
Augustė — “Before You’re 6 ft Under”
Mixing homages to 1980s hair rock with a rap break, you certainly won’t be bored listening to the this track. Augustė’s vocals can handle the different modes of the song, and she is the driving force that keeps it all running along: once you hear her voice, she’ll be with you for the rest of the three minutes without much of a break. Sure, the song’s a bit derivative, and the lyrics a bit preachy at times, but if Augustė can bring the same level of enthusiasm to the stage as you can hear in the studio version, I’d be surprised if this didn’t go far.
