Elis Mraz — “Imma Be”
Runner-up of the 2020 national final Elis Mraz is back for another tilt with her irrepressible mix of rap and Latin-pop. When the song starts you’re lulled into a few seconds of thinking that this might be a rock song before the trumpets come in and suddenly it’s familiar territory. This is a genre that I rarely feel any connection to, so while I can appreciate Mraz’s talent and skill (and the positivity in her lyrics), I’m afraid it’s not something that’s going to rank highly on my list.

The Valentines — “Stay or Go”
On the other hand, I am a fan of the retro sound of bands like The Valentines, with their 80s influences. This is a fun song which suffers from being on auto-pilot for the most part. It’s other downfall is that the singer’s vocals aren’t particularly exciting, and the lyrics are baffling at times. This would have been better with the chorus in English and the verses in Czech.
